Beyond the Bruises is an informational event focused on the forms of domestic abuse that often go unseen: emotional, psychological, and financial abuse.

Emotional and psychological abuse are very real and can be incredibly isolating. Isolation is often part of the abuse itself, leaving someone feeling as though they have nowhere to turn. But no one should have to face abuse alone. Countless others have experienced these forms of abuse, found support, and come through the other side.

Financial abuse can be equally devastating and may be especially difficult to recognize. It can affect anyone, but those who are elderly, infirm, financially dependent, or who have less power within a relationship may be particularly vulnerable. Financial control can leave someone feeling trapped, frightened, or unable to speak up or leave.
